Creative Blocks
If you work in any business where your creativity is key, you may be in trouble if you watch too many movies. A good reason not to watch movies is because doing so tends to drain your creativity and originality. Some people think this would be different. However, the truth is that watching someone else’s work can alter your own work. Take a look at why watching movies might not be a great idea for writers, artists, or other creative professionals.
The thing about creativity is that it can be hindered. For instance, you can see something in a movie that makes an impact on you. Whether you know it or not, you can remember that scene or wording for years. As you are creating your own form of art you may accidentally repeat it, without actually being conscious of it. Some of the best writers and musicians never fully share in the work of others because they want their own creativity and art to stay as pure as they can make it.
This is something to strongly think about as a creative person. One reason to not watch movies is because there is that risk of accidentally copying someone else, without being fully aware of it. Sure, the copying may not be to the extent that you are violating laws, but it may have hints of someone else’s work in it somehow. The great artists of the world have always secluded themselves from other things until they secured themselves artistically. |
